I am writing this post on a measly four hours sleep. My brain is clogged, my eyes are weary and I'm feeling generally fuzzy all over. William has stopped napping in the day. This is a double edged sword - on the one hand he goes to sleep at six rather than his previous time of eight or nine, so I get plenty of time in the evenings to write and do work, on the other hand he is now waking between five and five-thirty every morning.
Last night I didn't get to sleep until one, and William woke us at five. He was wide awake and chatting to himself while walking about in his cot. When William wakes up in a good mood it puts me in a good mood so I wasn't too bothered, but David was. David is not a morning person. I would go so far as to say that he is a complete and utter grump in the morning so we had a little squabble and David headed downstairs with William. After an hour or so we headed back up to bed to see if William would go back to sleep because he sometimes will if he's up super early - not a chance!
The little bugger has been up until now unable to climb out of his cot, well this morning he discovered that if he goes up on his little tippy-toes and leans over the edge he can get out. Luckily William's cot is pushed up right next to our bed so instead of falling and hurting himself on the floor he face-planted the mattress of our bed instead. We definitely need to get him a toddler bed soon! Until then his cot Will be staying in Mammy and Daddy's room.
There are a few possible solutions to my problem (that of William waking at five every-morning), I can either let him nap in the day again so he sleeps later at night and therefore wakes later in the morning or I can try getting to bed a little earlier myself so that the 5am wake-up calls don't make me feel like such a slug. More updates on this as they occur.
